NCHS SENIOR LUKE CARLETON NOMINATED FOR ELITE HOCKEY NATIONALS THREE YEARS IN A ROW

February 3, 2012

Each year, only two students from the state of Idaho are selected to participate in the USA Hockey American League Nationals.  For the past three years, Nampa Christian High School Senior, Luke Carleton, has received this prestigious nomination in his position as center/forward.

Luke plays for a high school hockey league called the Canyon County Coyotes and will be competing in February for the state championship.  Coach Brian Vaartstra says, “Luke has been the captain of the Canyon County Coyotes hockey team for the past two seasons.  He earned that position by his exemplary character both on and off the ice and his leadership and rapport with his teammates.  He's just one of those unselfish players who promote team unity and a strong work ethic.”

Throughout his years of playing hockey, Luke has played for numerous travel hockey teams, all star teams, and local high school leagues. He currently plays for the Midgets Team with the Idaho Jr. Steelheads.  The states Luke has competed in are Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, and also Canada.  He was accepted to play in Sweden but did not pursue it at the time. He has also qualified and played in Utah at the Rocky Mt. District Camp in the Olympic oval.

Luke, now 19, has played hockey since he was six years old and has played travel hockey since he was nine years old.  In addition to playing for three different leagues, Luke has managed to run a lawn care company, Epic Lawn Care, while keeping up with his studies in high school.
