NCHS JUNIOR DOUGLAS HOLLY AWARDED HIGHEST HONOR OF EAGLE SCOUT RANK
February 13, 2012
NCHS Junior Douglas Holly (Nampa) of Troop 112 was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout—the Boy Scouts of America’s highest honor---this past November.
The troop, sponsored by Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, bestowed the Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor hosted by Douglas’ parents, Doug and Marilyn Holly, at Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Nampa.
Douglas’ Eagle Scout service project included construction of six redwood picnic tables and four redwood benches, which the scouts installed at Trinity Pines Campground in Cascade. An extensive notebook was also created to track every part of the project, from planning to completion. Douglas’ mother Marilyn Holly said, “We are proud of this accomplishment by Douglas. He has worked very hard for six years to earn this rank.”
Douglas has been involved in scouting since 2006. In the summer of 2011, he participated in one of the Boys Scouts of America’s High Adventure Camps, with the Venturing Crew, at the Florida Sea Base near Key West, Florida. He has attended nearly 50 Scout camp-outs and week-long summer camps in California, Idaho and Florida, including National Youth Leadership training Camp.
Douglas is a member of the NCHS Key Club, has taken piano lessons for seven years, and plays the trumpet. He is the only bugler to receive the Bugler Merit Badge in the 85-plus year history of Troop 112.
His future plans are to attend college through ROTC and acquire a degree in business. He also has a dream of donating $1 million to missions.
